A Choreographer’s Vision: Creating Connection One Step at a Time

I think everyone has something important and relevant to say. Some use music. Others use visual art or words. I communicate through dance. Where my words fail me, my body makes up for in movement. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’ve met my closest friends and lovers through dance (yes, even my lovers). Oum Kalthoum, one of the most world-renowned and influential Arabic singers, could bring listeners to tears with her voice or tarab. She had the ability to create a unique experience based on the emotive interactions between her and her audience. That’s what I aspire to create with A Choreographer’s Vision.

The second installment is A Choreographer’s Vision: Fluid Elegance featuring Victoria Teel, which takes place on September 24th at Dixon Place. I am so excited to have Victoria perform in New York, and I hope you are too. Not only does she have flawless technique and presence, what she does with her fans is out of this world! This is one of my favorite videos:

See what I mean? She conveys so much vulnerability in her piece, and her fan becomes an extension of her. I highly recommend seeing her live.

Not only will Victoria be gracing her presence in A Choreographer’s Vision, I have an amazing lineup of dancers who inspire me every step of the way, and I’m so honored to have them be a part of the show. Featured dancers include:

Kaeshi Chai
Oreet
Brenna Crowley
Salit
Natalie Nazario
Raks al Zahra
Lara
Omyra
Arabic Sol Dancers
Makeda Gershenson

and yours truly!
